For most patients, Dr. Halasa recommends a professional cleaning and exam every six months. That frequency keeps your teeth and gums in good shape between visits and gives us a chance to catch small problems before they become larger ones.
Why Every Six Months?
Six months is the interval most dental insurance plans cover, and it aligns with how quickly plaque and tartar typically accumulate in patients with healthy gums. It also gives Dr. Halasa a regular opportunity to check for cavities, early gum disease, and other changes that are much easier to treat when caught early.
Does Everyone Need Dental Checkups Twice a Year?
Not always. Some patients benefit from seeing us more often, typically every three to four months. This schedule may apply if:
- You tend to build up tartar quickly
- You are at a higher risk of cavities
- You have a history of gum disease, or we are currently treating you for it
- You have diabetes or another condition that affects your oral health
Other patients with consistently healthy gums and a strong home care routine may be able to space visits out further, though that is something Dr. Halasa would discuss with you based on your specific needs.
